Tips for managing Oily Skin

The oiliness of skin depends on the amount of an oily substance known as sebum (Oil naturally produced by the body), which is produced by sebaceous glands. People having oily skin is an indication that these sebaceous glands are working overtime and therefore producing an excess of sebum. Besides sebum Genetics, puberty, heat, and humidity are some of the other factors that affect the production of oil in the skin. Following are some of the suggestions that will help you in taking care of your oily skin effectively:

1.        Use a mild cleanser especially formulated for the oily skin twice a day.

2.        If cleanser is not available use a plain soap that contains no fragrances or dyes and wash your face with warm water.

3.        Avoid over washing your face because it may lead to dryness.

4.        Use an oil-free lotion on the normal or dryer areas of the skin but avoid applying it on oily parts of the face.

5.        Use a mild astringent to dull the shine of the face.

6.        Use water-based, oil-free cosmetic products.

7.        It is better to use powders instead of cream because creams give a sticky and shiny look to the skin.

8.        Gently pat your face with oil blotting papers.

9.    Stress is also a cause of oily skin. Use stress management techniques to minimize its effect.
