Cola causes Acne – Myth or Fact?

The myth ‘coke causes acne’ has been around since ages and many still wonder if it’s true. Everyone who has stopped using coke just because of an old wives tales should first understand factors that contribute to acne breakout and then take decisions.

Acne occurs when sebum (the oil naturally produced by the skin) gets trapped underneath the skin resulting in clogging of the pores. Now this can happen due to any number of reasons such as by over production of the oil or transformation of excess oil from the top of the skin through any skin care or cosmetic product. These clogged pores then give rise to pimples and pustules. Acne is also caused by hormonal activity in the body, which affects the production of sebum oil. If you consider the ingredients of coca-Cola there is no evidence that it can cause acne.
